About Us

Not every company can trace its beginnings back over 100 years, but Quality Carriers can. We have been in the business of transporting goods and materials since 1913, when our founder, B. F. Leaman, started this company with a single Pierce Arrow truck delivering lime and milk around Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. From that time up to today, Quality Carriers has built a reputation for safety, honesty, quality, reliability and industry expertise by capitalizing on the opportunities to serve some of the world’s best and biggest companies.

In 1913 there was a need in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania for the timely delivery of both lime and milk. A small trucking company was formed to help meet this need. By 1930, the company was successful enough to purchase Mileage Motor Corporation, and began hauling fuel oil in addition to the lime and milk, the basis of the business.

In 1938, Wheatland, Illinois, Quality Carriers was formed with a focus on hauling milk in the Chicago area.

In 1998 Chemical Leaman and Montgomery Tank Lines combined, bringing together the industry's largest asset base and most complete service offering. This started an integration effort that culminated in 1999 when the two companies announced the formation of Quality Distribution, Inc., as the parent company and re-established the name of Quality Carriers for its first subsidiary.

Today, Quality Carriers has positioned itself as the leader in bulk chemical transportation by developing strong client relationships and focusing on driver growth and retention.

Acquired by the CSX Corporation on July 1, 2021, Quality Carriers is a subsidiary of one of the nation's leading transportation suppliers. Today we operate North America’s largest bulk tank trucking fleet with more than 2,500 trucks and 6,400 trailers.

Inbound Logistics (IL) is the leading trade magazine targeted toward business logistics and supply chain managers. The magazine’s annual Top 100 Truckers list serves as a qualitative assessment of service providers deemed to be best equipped to meet and surpass readers’ evolving motor freight transportation needs.

IL editors selected this year's class of Top 100 Truckers from a pool of more than 200 companies. The service providers selected are companies that, in the opinion of IL editors, offer the diverse operational capabilities and experience to meet readers' unique supply chain and logistics needs.

“Inbound Logistics recognizes Quality Carriers as a 2021 Top 100 Trucker for consistently providing premium service, reliability, scalability – the watchwords of supply chain professionals who need to provide service to their increasingly demanding customers,” said Felecia Stratton, Editor, Inbound Logistics. “Reliable transportation partners such as Quality Carriers allow shippers to do more with less, and operate efficiently and cost effectively.”

Each year, IL editors select the best transportation providers by carefully evaluating submitted information, conducting personal interviews and online research, and comparing that data to our readers’ burgeoning motor freight and logistics challenges.
